A note from Dr. B
"Bloating isn't just physical — it changes how you eat, how you dress, whether you show up. I built BDR™ because I was tired of seeing patients try everything and still suffer. Better ingredients and better delivery for better results."
Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, MD MSCI Triple Board-Certified Gastroenterologist & Co-Founder, 38TERA®
Two ingredients.
Two places. Two speeds.
You've tried the usual options. None of them solved the whole problem. Gas drops, enzymes, probiotics, herbal blends — each one targeted a symptom and missed the rest. BDR™ was built differently: the right ingredients, in the right places, at the right doses.
Each serving is 2 capsules. Every capsule is a dual-stage cap-in-cap, carrying two clinically studied ingredients and releasing each one in a different region of the gut. Most people start with 1 capsule per meal and build from there.
Peppermint Oil (43% Menthol) — 180mg per serving
Relaxes intestinal smooth muscle to calm spasm, cramping, and discomfort, and turns down your gut's pain dial so normal digestion feels more comfortable. It works on contact, locally in the gut, which is what makes it the fast half of the formula. Recommended by the American College of Gastroenterology (2021).
ibSium® Probiotic — 250mg / 2 Billion CFU per serving
A clinically studied yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856. It calms overactive gut nerves, helps your gut get back in rhythm whether the issue is too fast or too slow, and supports the bacteria already living in your colon. It survives transit to reach the colon alive — confirmed in 90% of human subjects. Advised by the World Gastroenterology Organisation (2023).
The dual-stage capsule
Standard capsules release everything in the stomach — the wrong place for both ingredients. BDR™'s acid-resistant outer capsule passes through the stomach intact and opens in the small intestine, releasing peppermint oil at the point in the gut that clinical research supports. The inner capsule carries ibSium® Probiotic further down, toward the colon, where its mechanisms are most active. One formula, two release points.
BDR™ is not a probiotic product. It is a targeted relief formula that happens to include a clinically studied probiotic component. ibSium® Probiotic is a yeast, not a bacterial probiotic blend — different organism, different mechanism, different job.

Fast acting relief.
Built to last.
BDR™ works at two speeds. Peppermint oil is the fast half. ibSium® Probiotic is the half that builds underneath it. Here is what to expect from your first dose through your eighth week.
Peppermint oil, on contact
It reaches the small intestine and relaxes the muscle wall directly. There is nothing to build up and nothing to wait for — it works on contact.
ibSium® Probiotic, underneath it
It works on gut sensitivity, bowel rhythm, and the bacteria in your colon. That work builds over weeks of consistent use, with the full run at eight weeks.
Peppermint calms cramping and discomfort.
What's happeningThe acid-resistant outer capsule releases peppermint oil in your small intestine, where it relaxes smooth muscle and turns down your gut's pain and spasm signals. This is the fast half of the formula, working on contact.
Stools start to normalize.
What's happeningibSium® Probiotic is reaching your colon alive and beginning to influence your gut bacteria and motility signaling. Bowel habits start to become more predictable — whether you were running too fast or too slow.
Discomfort and bloating ease.
What's happeningibSium® Probiotic continues to calm overactive gut nerves and support the bacteria already in your colon. Bloating episodes become less frequent and less intense. Your gut is finding its rhythm.
The foundation is built. Keep going.
What's happeningEight weeks is the full run for ibSium® Probiotic — the point at which its benefits have had time to compound. Both halves of the formula are now working together.
Complementary pieces for a healthier gut.
What's happeningBDR™ goes where the problem is. DMN® is 38TERA's whole-gut prebiotic — seven plant-based ingredients that feed your microbiome every day. Different jobs: one solves a problem, the other builds the foundation. Together they support the gut at every level.
"BDR™ was designed to be different: the right ingredients, in the right locations, at the right doses."
— Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, MD, MSCI · Co-Founder, 38TERA®One capsule per meal to start.
Build as needed.
This is the standard dosing guide, the one most people need. BDR™ is built to flex, so the right amount depends on how much your symptoms ask of it. Your gut, your dose.
1 capsule with each meal
Take it before or with the meal, with plenty of water. One capsule is a real dose, and for many people it is enough.
Up to 2 capsules at the meals that need it
If a meal still turns uncomfortable, take 2 capsules at that meal. Two capsules is a full serving and delivers the clinically studied dose of peppermint oil.
Up to 6 capsules a day
That is 2 capsules at each of 3 meals, and it is the only number you need to remember. Do not exceed the recommended daily amount.
Ease back to the smallest dose that holds
Once things level out, drop a capsule and give it a week. If your rhythm holds, that is your dose. If it slips, step back up.
Know your signal
Peppermint oil is the fast half, so it is the one you can judge quickly: less cramping, less spasm, a calmer gut through and after the meal. If a meal still turns uncomfortable, that's your cue to add a capsule at that meal.
ibSium® Probiotic is the slow half and you cannot judge it in a day. Give it weeks, and watch bowel habits rather than any single afternoon.
Take it with food, and with water. BDR™ is designed to be taken before or with a meal — that is when peppermint oil is most useful, because it is working on the muscle wall as food arrives. Drink plenty of water with each dose.
Dr. B Clinical Note
Flexible dosing is a feature, not a hedge. One capsule is a real dose for mild symptoms. Two capsules deliver a clinically studied dose of peppermint oil. Four bring both ingredients to the doses used in clinical trials. That range exists so the product can scale from an occasional bad gut day to daily support, without asking you to commit to a regimen you don't need.
Before you begin, read What to Know for who should not use BDR and when to contact your provider.
Using BDR for something specific?
The dosing above works for most people. But occasional discomfort, travel, bloating that shows up most days, symptoms that track your cycle, and simple maintenance once things have settled each call for a slightly different approach. We have mapped out a protocol for all five, ordered from lightest to heaviest.
See the BDR protocols →Protocols for specific
symptoms and situations
These protocols do not replace the standard dosing above. They adapt it. Same capsules, same starting point of 1 per meal, same ceiling of 6 in a day, same two speeds. What changes is how often you take it, which meals you take it with, and what you should be watching.
They run from lightest to heaviest. Four of them match the options in Find Your Dose on the product page; Maintenance is the one you land on once things have settled. Open the one that describes you. Most people move between them over time.
Occasional discomfort Bloating, gas or cramping on bad gut days or after eating out. You want it on hand, not every day.
You do not have to commit to a daily regimen to get something out of BDR™. Peppermint oil is the half that works on contact, and it works whether or not you took a capsule yesterday. Keep it on hand. Use it when you need it.
1 to 2 capsules with the meal you're worried about
Take it ahead of the meal if you can, or with it. One capsule is a real dose for mild symptoms; two deliver the clinically studied peppermint oil dose.
Take it again at your next meal if the day calls for it
A restaurant dinner, a long lunch, a day of eating off your usual pattern. Up to 6 capsules a day if needed.
Less cramping and spasm at the meal you took it with
This is the read you get from episodic use. The slower half of the formula needs consistency, so as-needed use will not give you the bowel-rhythm benefit.
If "occasional" starts becoming most days
That is worth noticing. Daily use is what lets ibSium® Probiotic build gut resilience over weeks — the part of the formula you cannot access with as-needed dosing. Move to Everyday support below.
Travel and disrupted routine Fine at home, thrown off by time zones, flights and off-pattern eating.
Travel disrupts meal timing, food, sleep, and stress all at once. This is the situation BDR™'s fast half is best suited to, because you need something working now rather than something you have been building for a month.
Start the day before departure
1 to 2 capsules with your largest meal the day before you travel, so you are not starting from behind.
1 to 2 capsules with your main meals
Unfamiliar food and irregular timing are exactly when spasm and discomfort spike. Up to 6 capsules a day if needed.
Keep a pack in your carry-on
No refrigeration required — ibSium® Probiotic is shelf-stable by design, so it does not need a fridge or a cold bag. Take it in your hand luggage rather than checked, so a delayed bag does not cost you the first two days.
Ease off once your rhythm returns
Drop back to your usual pattern, or stop entirely if travel was the only trigger. The formula is the same either way.
Maintenance Your gut is in decent shape. You want to keep it that way.
Not everyone comes to BDR™ with a problem to solve. Some people take it because things are finally settled and they would rather not go backwards. This is also the protocol you land on after one of the others has done its work.
1 to 2 capsules with your largest meal, daily
Lower than the protocols further down, because you are maintaining rather than correcting.
The slow half is the half that maintains
ibSium® Probiotic supports bowel regularity and microbiome balance, and those build with consistent use rather than single doses. Same time each day is easier to sustain than a schedule you have to think about.
Ease down to the smallest dose that holds
Some people maintain on 2 capsules, others settle at 1. Drop by one, give it a week, and see whether your rhythm holds. If it slips, step back up. Your maintenance dose is simply the smallest one that keeps things predictable.
Expect to move up and down, not to be finished
A heavy meal, a stressful stretch, a change in diet. Add a capsule at the meals that need it, then ease back down once things level out. That is the product working as designed, not a setback.
Add DMN® for the layer underneath
BDR™ goes where the problem is. DMN® feeds your microbiome every day. Most people take DMN® in the morning and BDR™ with a meal. There is no interaction between them.
If bloating becomes a most-days thing again
Maintenance dosing is not built to pull you out of a flare. Step up to Everyday support below, hold it there, and come back down once things settle.
Menstrual & hormonal bloating Your bloating and bowel habits track your cycle, or have shifted with perimenopause.
Bloating, altered bowel habits, and heightened gut sensitivity are among the most common digestive symptoms during menstrual cycles, perimenopause, and menopause — and among the least discussed. Hormonal shifts affect gut motility and gut sensitivity through estrogen and progesterone receptors in the gut wall. Those are the two things peppermint oil acts on.
Take it daily rather than only in the bad week
1 capsule with each meal, every day. ibSium® Probiotic's work on gut sensitivity and bowel rhythm builds over weeks, so it needs to be in place before the week you need it.
Build to 2 at the meals that need it
During the phase when symptoms peak, take 2 capsules at the meals that need it, then ease back to 1 once it passes. Up to 6 capsules a day.
Map it against your cycle, not the calendar
Because the pattern is cyclical, week-to-week comparison misleads. Compare the same phase across two or three cycles instead.
Worth raising with your provider
New or changing bowel symptoms deserve a conversation, particularly around perimenopause and menopause, when it is easy to attribute everything to hormones. BDR™ is a dietary supplement, not a treatment for any condition, and it is not a substitute for medical care.
Everyday support Bloating, gas, cramping or irregularity most days. Not one meal or one trigger you can point to.
Bloating that shows up most days, gas and cramping that are not tied to one food, a gut that feels sensitive to meals that used to be fine. This is the pattern BDR™ was built around, and the one where both speeds matter — peppermint oil handles the meals while ibSium® Probiotic works underneath on gut sensitivity and bowel rhythm.
This is the protocol that needs consistency
Peppermint oil gives you something from the first dose. ibSium® Probiotic builds over weeks. Take it daily and give it the full run before you judge it.
1 capsule with each meal, every day
Start here and hold for the first week. Three capsules spread across your meals is enough to show you how your gut responds.
Build to 2 at the meals that need it
If a meal still turns uncomfortable, take 2 capsules at that meal. 2 capsules at two meals a day brings both ingredients into full clinical trial dose range. Up to 6 capsules a day.
Stay consistent for 8 weeks
Bloating and discomfort typically ease across weeks 5 and 6. Eight weeks is the full run. Judging the slow half before then tells you less than you think.
Week to week, not day to day
Look at how often episodes happen and how intense they are, not whether today was good. Stool consistency moving toward the middle — from either direction — is the clearest sign the second half is working.
Once it settles, find your floor
You may not need the dose that got you there. Ease down a capsule at a time and see whether your rhythm holds. Maintenance above covers what that looks like.
Symptoms this persistent deserve a proper look
If you have not had these symptoms evaluated, get them evaluated. Several things present this way, and some need care a supplement cannot give. Stop and contact your provider for rectal bleeding, severe or worsening abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, unexplained weight loss, or fever alongside digestive symptoms. BDR™ is a dietary supplement and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Whichever protocol you follow, the limits in Standard Dosing still apply — do not exceed 6 capsules in a day, and read What to Know before you begin.
A few things
before you begin
Practical information that helps you get the most from BDR — and know when to ask for help.
The capsule is doing real work — swallow it whole
The acid-resistant outer shell is what gets peppermint oil past the stomach. Opening, crushing, or chewing a capsule releases it in the wrong place, which is the usual cause of the reflux and heartburn people associate with peppermint supplements.
BDR is not a stimulant, and it is not a laxative
Nothing in the formula forces a bowel movement. ibSium® Probiotic normalizes stool consistency toward the middle of the Bristol scale — it moves you toward normal from whichever direction you started.
BDR pairs with DMN®
Different jobs, no conflict. BDR™ is targeted relief — it goes where the problem is. DMN® is daily microbiome nutrition that conditions your gut over time. Most people who take both use DMN® daily and BDR™ with meals.
What's in it, and what isn't
Free from gluten, dairy, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, and artificial preservatives. Manufactured and third-party tested in the USA, with every batch tested for contaminants. No refrigeration required.
When to talk to your provider
Do not use BDR if you have
A known or suspected bowel blockage. You are under 18.
Talk to your provider before starting if you
Are pregnant or breastfeeding. Take prescription medications. Have reflux that peppermint has aggravated before. Are immunocompromised or have a central venous catheter — worth raising with any yeast-containing product. Have digestive symptoms you have not yet had evaluated.
Stop and contact your provider if you have
Rectal bleeding. Severe or worsening abdominal pain. Persistent vomiting. Unexplained weight loss. Fever alongside digestive symptoms. A new change in bowel habits that does not settle.
What's normal in the first few days
Peppermint oil is well tolerated at these doses when delivered in an acid-resistant capsule. Some people notice mild changes in digestion in the first few days as the formula settles in.
BDR™ is a dietary supplement. It is not a treatment for any condition, and it is not a substitute for medical care. Always talk with your healthcare provider before starting a new supplement, particularly if you take prescription medications.
Why BDR™ vs
the alternatives
The problem isn't which product you chose. It's that most products treat one symptom, in one place — and bloating isn't one place.

Your questions,
clear answers
How is BDR™ different from a probiotic?
BDR™ isn't a probiotic product — it's a targeted relief formula. It contains ibSium® Probiotic, a clinically studied probiotic yeast, but that's one component of a dual-ingredient system. ibSium® Probiotic is a yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), not a bacterial probiotic blend — different organism, different mechanism, different job. BDR™ also contains peppermint oil for fast-acting relief. No probiotic does that.
Isn't this just peppermint oil? Can't I buy that anywhere?
Location and dose matter. Standard peppermint capsules release at one place — often the stomach, which is where the reflux comes from. BDR™'s acid-resistant outer capsule targets the small intestine, the release point clinical research supports, and pairs it with a second ingredient working further down. Same ingredient class, fundamentally different delivery.
What makes the dual-stage capsule different from a regular capsule?
Standard capsules release everything in the same place. BDR™'s acid-resistant outer capsule releases peppermint oil into the small intestine per clinical research. The inner capsule carries ibSium® Probiotic further along, toward the colon, where probiotic yeast mechanisms are most active. One formula. Two precise release points. Because your gut isn't one place.
How fast does BDR™ work?
Two speeds. Peppermint oil works on contact with the intestinal wall — that is the fast half, and it does not need to build up. ibSium® Probiotic works on gut sensitivity, bloating, and regularity, and that builds over weeks, with eight weeks as the full run. Set both expectations early: fast relief up front, resilience building underneath it.
How much should I take?
Start with 1 capsule before or with each meal, and build to 2 at the meals that need it, up to 6 capsules a day. That daily ceiling is the number to remember; how you spread it across your meals is up to you and your symptoms. For occasional discomfort, 1 to 2 capsules with the meal you are worried about is enough. For symptoms most days, 1 capsule with every meal, building to 2 as needed, brings both ingredients into full clinical dose range. Do not exceed the recommended daily amount.
How is BDR™ different from DMN®?
Different jobs entirely. DMN® is foundational, everyday gut support — daily nutrition that conditions your microbiome. BDR™ is targeted support for a specific problem: bloating, cramping, and digestive discomfort. One builds the foundation; the other solves the problem. They work well together and don't compete.
Will I experience any side effects?
Peppermint oil is well tolerated at these doses when delivered in an acid-resistant capsule, and ibSium® Probiotic has a strong safety profile. Some people notice mild changes in digestion in the first few days. Do not use if you have a known bowel blockage. Consult your healthcare provider if pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking prescription medications.
Can I take BDR™ every day, or only when I need it?
Both. BDR™ is designed to flex to your life. Daily use lets ibSium® Probiotic build lasting resilience over weeks. As-needed use gives you peppermint oil's fast-acting relief on the days you need it. Use it however it fits your symptoms — the formula is the same either way.
What if I miss a day?
Missing an occasional day won't undo your progress. If you're taking BDR™ for ongoing gut support, just pick up where you left off. Consistency drives the longer-term benefits of ibSium® Probiotic — but this is real life, not a clinical protocol.
Does BDR™ need refrigeration?
No. ibSium® Probiotic is shelf-stable by design. Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight and moisture — and keep a pack in your travel bag.
Is BDR™ safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Consult your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking prescription medications.
Where is BDR™ manufactured?
BDR™ is manufactured and third-party tested in the USA. Every batch is traceable to origin and tested for contaminants to ensure purity. What's on the label is what's in the capsule.
Key terms,
explained
Science-led communication means clarity over complexity. Here are the terms most relevant to your BDR™ journey.
- Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita)
- 180mg per serving, 90mg per capsule. Relaxes intestinal smooth muscle to ease spasm and cramping, and dampens the pain signalling that makes normal digestion feel uncomfortable. It works locally in the gut, on contact. Recommended by the American College of Gastroenterology (2021).
- ibSium® Probiotic
- A clinically studied strain of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, CNCM I-3856. 250mg / 2 Billion CFU per serving. Calms overactive gut nerves, helps normalize stool consistency, and supports the bacteria already in the colon. Advised by the World Gastroenterology Organisation (2023).
- Dual-Stage Capsule (cap-in-cap)
- A capsule inside a capsule. The acid-resistant outer capsule passes through the stomach intact and releases peppermint oil in the small intestine; the inner capsule carries ibSium® Probiotic further along, toward the colon. This is a delivery technology, not a health claim.
- Acid-Resistant Capsule
- A shell built to survive stomach acid so its contents are released further along the digestive tract. It is what stops peppermint oil opening in the stomach, which is the usual cause of the reflux people associate with peppermint supplements.
- Smooth Muscle
- The involuntary muscle lining the digestive tract. When it contracts excessively or out of rhythm, the result is spasm, cramping, and discomfort. Relaxing it is peppermint oil's primary action.
- Gut Sensitivity
- How strongly the nerves in your gut report sensation to your brain. When it is heightened, ordinary digestion can register as discomfort. Both BDR™ ingredients act on this, by different routes.
- Bristol Stool Scale
- A seven-point clinical scale describing stool form, from hard lumps (type 1) to liquid (type 7). "Normalizing" means moving toward the middle of the scale, whichever end you started from.
- CFU (Colony Forming Units)
- A count of viable microorganisms in a dose. BDR™ delivers 2 Billion CFU of ibSium® Probiotic per serving.
- Probiotic Yeast
- A beneficial yeast rather than a bacterium. Different organism, different mechanism, and unaffected by the conditions that limit many bacterial probiotics. ibSium® Probiotic is a probiotic yeast — BDR™ as a whole is not a probiotic product.
- ACG / WGO
- The American College of Gastroenterology and the World Gastroenterology Organisation — two of the field's major professional bodies. ACG recommends peppermint oil (2021); WGO advises ibSium® Probiotic (2023). Both positions are based on independent clinical evidence rather than manufacturer data.
Works where it needs to.
